DMP Artist Educator Statement

I was originally hesitant to take this course because I was scared to participate in this final performance project. I was insecure about acting in any sense and the idea of using my body in that way in front of people seemed terrifying. However, this turned out to be one of my favorite projects I have ever done in college. I learned so much about myself and about the production of art in general. I learned that I have a lot to contribute to the artistic world. My English brain has been trained to look at things critically and creatively, which is effective when applied to media. DMP Interview

Initial Question: “We’re doing a project to explore times of limbo or ‘holy Saturdays’ in our lives. The concept of Holy Saturday comes from the crucifixion of the Savior, when he had died on Friday, and had not yet been resurrected on Sunday. The worst had already happened, and the best was yet to come. That feeling of being stuck in-between or waiting happens to everyone, and we’re trying to compile stories to see what it is that gets us through these experiences. Can you tell me about a Holy Saturday or ‘limbo’ experience in your life? ” Follow-up Questions: Who is there for us when we’re in limbo? What tethered you? Where and when was this experience beautiful? Is there a “holy ground” or other place or object tied to this experience? Has the waiting period ended? How have you changed because of it? What do you think the purpose of this experience was in your life? Do you have any advice for dealing with limbo experiences? How did your relationships influence this experience?...
